Escalating violence in Afghanistan is putting the lives of thousands of civilians at risk. Please donate to help those in need!

On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern part of Haiti. Bright Funds has established the 2021 Haiti Earthquake Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. This fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of nonprofits in this fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

An oil tanker explosion killed 22 people in the impoverished northern Lebanese governorate of Akkar, the Lebanese Red Cross said. The organisation said 79 people were injured in the incident. More people are feared dead. The explosion happened at a time of widespread fuel shortages, when much of the country is without electricity and long queues form at petrol stations. Fund will support disaster relief to the families - specifically burn victims that are in need of medical supplies, protective gear and pain killers. Ahla Fawda are already donating to the main 2 hospitals - Geitawii & Salam that are treating the injured.

Donations desperately needed! On Saturday 14th August 2021, an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude stuck Haiti. This is while the country is still rebuilding from the 2010 earthquake of 7.0 magnitude that is believed to have taken the lives of 200,000 people. This fund is comprised of funds that will benefit those in Haiti who have been displaced and help the country rebuild.

On World Humanitarian Day August 19, the world commemorates humanitarian workers killed and injured in the course of their work, and we honour all aid and health workers who continue, despite the odds, to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need. This year World Humanitarian Day comes as the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic over recent months. Aid workers are overcoming unprecedented access hurdles to assist people in humanitarian crises in 54 countries, as well as in a further nine countries which have been catapulted into humanitarian need by the COVID-19 pandemic. This day was designated in memory of the 19 August 2003 bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, killing 22 people, including the chief humanitarian in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Help TOG for their reforestation efforts in Southern Turkey. On July 27th 2021, forest fires started in the Southern region of Turkey, causing many casualties while creating a massively destructive damage on wildlife. Currently there are around 60 fires still uncontrolled in the region and the total damage is expected to be catastrophic. With this fundraising activity we are aiming to help Toplum Gonulluleri Vakfi (TOG) in their effort to help reforestation in the region. All proceeds will be used for reforestation efforts of TOG.

The Cherry Hill Free Clinic provides healthcare services to our uninsured and underinsured neighbors in Camden County. This clinic offers free health services for those who do not have access to care and is led by volunteer medical professionals. Their in kind care helped improve the quality of life for over 3,000 patients and continues to be an essential resource to the community. This August, the clinic is hosting a week long fundraiser to support their services. The incessant rains in Maharashtra in second half of July'21 have wrecked havoc. Widespread floods have been reported across many districts. The worst-hit districts are Kolhapur, Raigad, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Satara and Sindhudurg, hitting a total of 890 villages. Basic infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity was disrupted in several areas. Over a lakh people have been displaced and are without proper shelter, food and medical help.

To celebrate the accomplishments and progress we have made towards the goal of breaking the cycle of the under served in our global communities this past year we are launching a challenge (because we love competition) for a good cause, supporting the work of 3 of our close NGO partners CHAMPS, SOS Maroc, and Openmind Project.

Our food choices have a very direct impact on not just our own health but also the environment, farm workers and public health. This is also a social justice and inclusivity issue since research shows that minorities are disproportionately impacted due to factory farming. The NGO’s in this fund strive to create a more compassionate and inclusive world by enabling people to make more thoughtful plant based food choices. The good news is that in addition to Cisco Foundation matching, any donations made via this fund will be matched by an external investment fund, VegInvest, dollar for dollar up to $50k per NGO annually. Note that Cisco employee data will not be shared with VegInvest, only the total $ raised. As of April 2022, VegInvest has matched a total of $1,720 (of which $1,359 were donated by Cisco employees and $361 were donated by non employees).

A major storm system stalled over Western Europe on July 14-15, leading to record-setting rain over Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands. Some parts of Germany received two months of rain in 24-48 hours, leading to rivers overtopping their banks, flash flooding through communities, and hundreds of people injured, missing or dead. The Ahr, Volme and Dussel rivers all overtopped their banks with record-setting water levels, which led to evacuation orders and emergency declarations in multiple cities. As the water continued to flow downstream, it filled dams past their capacity, leading to more evacuations as infrastructure was stretched – sometimes beyond its breaking limit. There has been extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure in the worst natural disaster the region has faced in more than half a century.

Support 30 more kids for 2021 and 2022 school year : DBSSS has identified more than 30 poorest of the poor children of all ages who are deprived of their basic right to education due to the financial crisis during the covid-19 period as many of their parents were forcefully terminated by their managements from their jobs. COVID-19 Relief support : Even though the Covid-19 impact is very bad DBSSS team has been working relentlessly from day one to gather food supplies, cooking food, packing, transporting and distributing food supplies to the poor from door to door. We are very much be empathetic to needy people who lost their livelihoods and who are stuck up at places other than their own for lac of transport facility. Many were forced to walk for hundreds of miles only to give up their life on the way due to starvation. Now there is an urgent need to provide them provisions to stop starvation in the current Covid-19 as it is taking different turns. 3. Housing for homeless : Shelter is the necessity for all human beings. 30% of the population in Hyderabad enjoy staying in their own residence but 50% of middle class people live in rented houses and 20% poorest of the poor population live in utter poverty which is resulted with lot of slums, highly populated with unhygienic condition, no less moral standards. The rain began over the weekend, with storms intensifying on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, Zhengzhou and other places in Henan province saw widespread flooding. There were reports online of people swept away by fast-moving floodwaters, and cars and debris drifting down submerged streets. Several dams and reservoirs have breached warning levels, and soldiers have been mobilised to divert rivers which have burst their banks. Flights and train operations in many parts of Henan have also been suspended. It added that 600 critically ill patients had been transferred to another location. A 20-metre (65ft) breach has emerged in the dam in Luoyang city after it was damaged by storms, officials said. Soldiers have been deployed to the area and a statement from the army warned it could "collapse at any time". In Zhengzhou, unverified video footage showed passengers in flooded subway carriages with water reaching their shoulders.
