International Committee of the Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance. The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the Geneva Conventions and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It directs and coordinates the international activities conducted by the Movement in armed conflicts and other situations of violence.

UNICEF Nederland is one of the 34 National Committees that represent UNICEF International. We raise funds for aid programs implemented in 155 developing countries and provide information about the work of UNICEF. In addition, our committee monitors whether the Dutch government adheres to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in both its domestic and foreign policy.

A group of students with a heart that beats for others joined forces in 1992 to answer cries for help from those in need worldwide. They wanted to improve the world from their small attic room in Amsterdam. Islamic Relief Netherlands was created based on this willpower. The first Orphan Project quickly became a reality and three decades later it is still the most successful project of Islamic Relief Netherlands. In 30 years, Islamic Relief Netherlands has grown into one of the largest Islamic humanitarian aid organizations in the world. A foundation that has projects running in more than 29 countries. A foundation that has undergone enormous development. As we look to the future, we are always learning, developing and improving, to improve the living conditions of most of the poorest and neediest people.
